A0.75 Update #3

Okay, just a quick update since people always ask. We are having trouble with some new bugs. They are mostly due to the fact that water physics is working. All of a sudden, we need new ways for AI to figure out what is water (plus how to drown properly) and how to save water that has spread to new places. The water physics looks good…even great with the new water shader. It does take a hit on the cpu when large areas of water start moving (like digging out a river), so the faster your cpu, the less it impacts the frame rate.

This doesn’t affect when the game will go on Steam, which is still on for midweek next week. We are going to try to put out a build here, asap, in the next couple of days (not working on Sunday). As we still want you to help us test out the new build.

  1. Guys, as i said before, take the time that you need to squish the bugs and have a look to see if everything is in place, no matter how long it takes, we shall wait, it is not the end of the world if it takes a little extra time, the results WILL be woth the wait.

  2. you all doing great trust me i thank we or all happy with what you all done here.. and like elenoe sade there. would love to see a video or something of this water in action. do’s this mean we can make lakes and pools in or base ? and the rain stop going inside closed in building ?

  3. Font rush! We love indie games because u guys take the right time to make it good. Keep thinking in create the game that yourself will love to play and we will be very happy!

  4. By all means, take your time. I can wait until you fix things. Besides, it’ll be well worth the wait, anyway! I totally love this game! I eagerly look forward to when it’s available. =) Keep up the excellent work! <3

  5. Hi,

Thanks for the update. Be a developer isn’t a easy job but you doing it well. Hope you will manage the new bug without too much pain. For the steam release, insist on the fact that is a alpha and what that means. You could also have a message in game like they do in DayZ do make people remember isn’t the final product even not the beta. Have a nice Sunday.

    • From what I have seen, no none of our saves will work on the new build sadly.

  6. i think I can wait for a little longer. I learn cs in college, so I know fix bugs that is important and takes times. Don`t rush. However, I think it will be cool to put a version on steam. It will help more people to enjoy this game.

  7. I’ll say it again, I love PE. You have done an incredible job and continue to impress with the updated content and bug fixes. Very much looking forward to this next update and the steam release. I believe it will bring more players and funding to PE. Keep up the good work. Rob

  8. You should roll out a test download. I am sure a lot of the dedicated buyers could provide much feed -back on bugs as well. I know I am one of those with solid knowledge of development and design. Just a thought and would love to help with clean-up and squishing bugs..

  9. For other language version they have say, they will ask the community to help them when the story will be finish so not to going to happen soon.

  10. Looking forward to the update. I don’t care about the water at all, but I hope for more editor functions.
But since water physics are there, I think you should give the option to have them run on a PhysX processor if one is available, to take the load off the CPU. CPUs aren’t generally well suited for physics calculations.

      • That’s great but not quite the point. I understand the desire for compromise, and I know Unity is quite… special. By limiting the simulation speed your water will obviously suffer in quality, but by enabling GPU and dedicated physX processing, you’d be able to give at least half your players a more amazing experience.

  11. It’s mid of the week. When will it be available. And I found that the previous comment ask for the GPU physics, is it PhysX GPU possible? As I know, Unity’s PhysX implementation is CPU. It shouldn’t able to use GPU if you don’t implement it yourself.

  12. I preordered this for $22, its an excellent concept I love the ideas behind this game itS like next gen mincraft but with a plot. However that may be I’m having trouble with the spots I try to dig. It would appear that its just simply not rendering the “underground” as it were. I cant seem to dig any farther than a few feet down, and even then everything is black saying its a dirt block, I’ve tried everything but i cant get it to render the ground whedn i dig down. I’m thinking perhaps maybe I have to download again and if i do will I have to pay again? More importantly what if that doesn’t fix it, can anyone help me?

    • and no you wont have to pay again as long as you have kept the email with your key you can re-download it over and over again

    • there is a multiplayer mode plus mmo would kill the game for the creative people

      • why would it? This is not mmo due to hard implementation and enormous money it needs to pay for infrastructure. But there is no inherent reason why it could not work. There are pretty creative mmo games already.

        • Well if it was an mmo there would need to be servers and world wipes at times to give new players chances to actually build and survive, just go the minecraft server way so that it’s not an mmo but you can still interact with other people when you’re done being non-social lol

          • nothing that could not be set with land owning and sharing feature. Or completely different way like in A Tale in the Desert where creations are limited to scope and author. Wondering how Everquest Next Landmark doing the exact thing but I guess they solved unsocial problems. It always depends on what you want to achieve. If you know there is solution.

          • Well I still think it would be better off being a single player with a multiplayer option like it currently is just so you don’t have to deal with the occasional hacker who corrupts the whole world or spawns in the max number of giant robots onto everyone to ruin their stuff also the ownership lock can still be used to screw someone over for if you have a small area then here comes someone from nowhere that claims the area around yours in the immediate vicinity and miles away you won’t be able to build what you want and this person can just follow you and keep doing it, plus don’t forget some comments people made that they’re excited for the game but their internet is crap would be bad marketing to suddenly switch to an mmo for the people who practically say they have hamster internet.

          • agree on that. Never said it should be mmo. Only that mmo and creative people are not mutual exclusive. I would personally sacrifice any MP for more SP features 🙂

          • Ahh okay then lol
i figured you were saying Planet Explorers should be an mmo though it’s fine as it is though i do know some games are becoming a creative survival mmo much like the new game rust thats in alpha watched some youtube of that and people dealt with alot of hackers on it is why i said PE is better off being as it is lol

  13. Now that the water physics has been worked out maybe you can add the ability to make ships. 🙂
