We’ve hit a snag

Hey there, just a quick update on a0.7 before you start throwing things. We have just 3 bugs keeping us from releasing, one of them we just found out on Saturday.

1. A crash bug for the 64bit Windows build caused by Opcode::HybridOBBCollider::Collide + 0x64c, we don’t really know what this is and no one else does either. We’re taking parts of the asset bundle out piece by piece to see if any of the assets have bad collision or something. Scratching our collective heads on this one. If we fix the other two bugs before this, we’ll just go ahead with the 32bit build.

2. This one’s a biggie that was probably due to some communications oversight between the client and netcode programmers. Basically, the client modes and the multiplayer modes are using 2 different systems for items and items gathering, we only figured this out when we merged the code. So now we’re doing a sprint on getting the current client system ported over to the multiplayer. 4 days needed.

3. Fast travel in multiplayer. There are some logic bugs here keeping players from syncing. But we think it’s a must have feature, especially for versus. 2-3 days needed.

Everything else’s pretty much hakuna, still doing bug runs through the story, but those are not serious bugs. So please bear with us, we’re almost there! We will be posting a save file for people wanting to start where the story ended in a0.62, and here’s the preliminary changelist so far.

  3. Your adding a lot so the bugs are expected. The better you write the code now the less issues later and more people will play due to it. Keep up the hard work.

  5. Hey , reaaly cool updates here ! i expected a lot from this game and now i’m happy to see all these new features comign soon .
    Justa little question , will the 0.62 story will be saved into the 0.7 update ? and if not , do we have a way to keep our story level by switching some folders into the game ?

    • The saves this time will not completely carry over, unfortuanely, since so much new things have been added that weren’t in the old save files. We will provide several saves at different points in the game.

  8. This is going to be a nice update … but … I myself prefer smaller and more frequent updates kinda like what Starbound is doing. It keeps the game fresh and not so forgettable (Yes, I almost forgot about this game =/ )

    • We’ll start doing that once we get on Steam Early Access (1 updated every 1-1.5 month), right now, some features take a lot of time, so we want to give ourselves enough time and not that much pressure to successfully implement them.

      • For me its a good thing, this game is a survival game so sleep and food must have an influence on HP, it makes the research of food and having enough supplies the first priority In the early hours of the game.

        Perhaps you could set an option to turn on or off this effect to let the payer choose the difficulty he wants.

        • I agree, a Difficulty level would be great.
          Maybe an “Easy” mode, a “Normal” mode and a “Hard” mode?

          Easy mode being no damage taken from hunger

          Normal mode being 1/2 damage from hunger

          Hard mode being 100% damage from hunger.

          I’m sure other things can be added to each mode such as weaker mobs in easy mode and harder mobs in hard mode.

      • I don’t think he is writing Double and single float on same line. It’s like inserting a 64 bit double into a 32 bit integer, unless you convert it. This may not work static int ToInt32( double value ). I don’t know much of C++. I do C#

  10. I really don’t understand how a bunch of programmers can write only a few hundred thousand lines of code and not have everything just sync up perfectly. C’mon guys, get it together. It’s not like communications or cohesiveness have ever mattered before now. It’s simply not important. Just ask Microsoft.
    We are the entitled few (somehow) and we demand that everything work perfectly, instantly. If Bethesda and Blizzard can do it, so can you.

    Oh, wait. They can’t.

    Good luck sorting out these issues. Can’t wait to see how I get to kill off innocent bystanders this time. 🙂

  11. Please, please, PLEASE… say you have worked out why the opencl compatible card running the latest and greatest drivers (AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB) running on MAC does not work……

  13. I really hope you guys get the 64 bit bug figured out. I was pretty excited for the 64 bit version.

    • It always ran on Mac without crashing, if you have opencl supported hardware. In this build, we are expanding that compatibility to CPUs, so, yes, it will probably work for you now.

  15. As for each update we need to restart from scratch, I’m not sure frequent update is a good idea and so I’m fine with the release. And they provides a lot of new feature. Of course more frequently update to fix bug and big update times to times for new features will be a good thing. Maybe this time I will can fly and turn left.

    Mal posso esperar para jogar. comprei o jogo a 2 dias e já estou maravilhado com ele, imagina agora com este Update.
    Eu gostaria que a mídia mostrasse mais sobre este jogo afinal é um jogo sandbox com uma história realmente interessante. Ficção mas não Fantasia.

  20. i enjoy that you keep updated it is a really nice thing thanks ive been checking in everyday and im excited for the release and take you time and make this game right. nobody is going to like screwy game so i think it is a good thing that you have taken enough time to make things right before releasing something thats broken and unplayable

  21. I’m a bit concerned about 3D “real” map. So far it never worked well in any game and 2D map was always better for orientation. How many people uses google satellite view as a primary view for navigation? Also is there vehicle repair and refilling in 0.7?

    • It’s not a “real” 3D map, just a mesh vectorized version of the old 2D map. We save ram space and it’s more clear for players. Now, the map for the mineral scanner is full 3D and awesome. 🙂

  22. I hope you go with 32 bit cause after about about 30 minutes or an hour the game crashes. But then it’s probably cause of the 32 bit I have.

  23. I spotted 2 words I know well… “sprint” and “story”. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. So glad you guys are using an agile methodology. I love sushi, so will take the sashimi slices as you release them. 🙂 Keep up the good work!
