Alright, after working on this for almost 5 months, we’ve finally finished the initial version of alpha 0.7. Now, it’s not completely bug free, that’s for sure, so we will be putting out a a0.71 version for sure. In fact, some last minute multiplayer syncing bugs almost kicked this build to next year (we fixed them in the eleventh hour). We actually tried to do a little too much for a0.7, and some of the experiments failed. We tried to do realtime cubemap based ambient lighting. It worked, but the frame rate took a dive to around 15fps even on the HD7970. So it went out the window. We also wanted to write a sound program that runs outside Unity in parallel for all the sounds of the game so you don’t get a hiccup when Unity does garbage collection (Unity’s Mono is really old, so garbage collection takes longer than it should, and doesn’t seem to work all too well anyway). We were waiting to see if Unity will upgrade their Mono with Unity 4.3, they didn’t, and by the time we knew that, there wasn’t enough time to add this feature. So you’ll still get awkward skips in sound and music in this build.

We also had some last minute bugs/issues that knocked out:

AI detection based on visual and sound
Took out 4 followers for now because it’s causing balance issues (making things a little too easy)
Cannot trade items in multiplayer yet (first thing we’re working on for a0.71)
Took out 64bit client because there’s a collision issue with Unity that’s causing random crashes
Monster beacon in multiplayer, it broke a lot of things

One of the biggest improvements to be added to a0.7 is that now players can use their CPU to render voxels if they choose to, this opens up the game for players with integrated cards.

And that’s that. There’s a slight change in price, now the preorder is $22 due to all the things we added. Also, regarding Steam Early Access, we’ll put the game there in early 2014. The precise time will be announced after we examine where we sit after a0.71 comes out. It’s been a hectic month for us, we’ll sit back and relax a few days before getting back to work on a0.71. For Mac users using Mavericks, for some reason, the new Apple opencl driver 1.2 is actually causing problems for the game. You’ll need to switch to CPU opencl for now until we figure out the problem. For everyone else on Mac, opencl graphics cards should still work fine.

    • Without IK, the fps will be faster, but animals’ feet will not stick to the ground. With IK, the feet will conform to the ground and look more natural, but probably a 3-10 fps dip, depending on your setup.

  2. Well, I’ve tinkered a bit now and I am very happy with the progress! The jetpack and glider are great! Boost high up with the jetpack then switch to glider and glide around, works very well. Found NPC’s in MP Adventure mode and got a mission from them. Will post back when I’ve had some more time with it, but so far it’s turning into one hell of a game!

  3. I downloaded the PE for Mac but still once I have unwraped the files and launch the application game it says:
    This application comes from internet – and won’t open.
    Any solution?

    • You need to change your “Allow applications downloaded from” Gatekeeper setting to “Anywhere”

      Yo can find it under
      Apple menu > System Preferences… > Security & Privacy > General tab

      • Youwill also rant to run Play_Planet_Explorers, not Game, as I’m pretty sure you can’t run that directly

  9. my dumbass cannot find my activation key I used for when I bought it. How do I activate the game since I just downloaded 7.0a

    • i dont think one can in the build that they have atm. but they said that were going to make a save file that starts where the old 0.62 ends.

  10. So I was browsing though kickstarter, searching through projects in my State (Cookeville, TN here), found this, bought it, and wow. I honestly can’t believe that I found a game so good by searching in such an obscure fashion. You guys really need more attention. Out of all the indie games I am supporting right now, with all honesty, this one has the most potential. I’m still tinkering with making vehicles/weapons and things, but that’s part of the fun for me.

    Seriously, keep it going. I really want to see this one make it.

    but when in the forest i’m having major lag to the point where it’s unplayable!
    Also at the martian camp you get the blaster scrip, but you can’t make it with out the fuel scrip and i looked every where ..
    Any one els having this problem?

  12. Building in the landscape is like MineCraft now, I liked it better before where you could drag diagonal and it melted together not these Blocks. And Digging isn’t as smooth anymore.

    • Oh yeah Fast travel is dumb now and freezes every time, why would you change that?

    • The terrain direct modifying is going back in pretty soon, we can’t put everything together right away you know, manpower vs priorities. 😛

  13. Hello I play your game and it’s very cool. version 0.7 but I have no animals shuttles tents. only people trees and grass, and all I have windows 7 64x and still nothing. Sorry. I forgot to put the point

  14. I have some really complex buildings i have spent Weeks on. They have power generators, gas lines, power cells, a industrial looking Cracking system and reactors. Will we be able to build the buildings again like we used to? I don’t like how it has been changed if this is suppose to replace what we had….
